Today at my church in Orlando we hosted an Assimilation Seminar with Bob Franquiz of Calvary Fellowship in Miami Lakes, FL. Pastor Bob is an instructor with Church Leader Insights with Nelson Searcy.

The seminar teaches you how to turn first time guests into a fully-developing members of your church. We have implemented the concepts and ideas from this seminar and have been doing so for a little over a year now and have seen tremendous spiritual growth from our members along with helping people take the next step toward becoming a disciple of Christ regardless if they are far from God or have been walking with Jesus for some time. We believe that everyone has a next step to take.

I know it's been a while since my last post but I hope to have many more things to share this year as God blesses the work of His church called Calvary South Orlando. I've also found myself sharing more on Facebook so you can look me up there, too.

Bob, if you're reading this, thank you for an amazing time today. It was an honor to host the seminar and I hope we can do it again some time.

Today is my wife's birthday. I can not begin to tell you what she means to our family; if I did we would be here a long time. In short, she is an amazing woman, a terrific wife and a fantastic mother. Not to mention a great woman of God. I hope to honor her today and treat her like a queen, wait don't I do that everyday? Anyway, it's not about me today, it's about the woman I call my beloved bride, a woman the boys call Momma, a woman we all call friend and a woman God calls His own.

A thought about what today means to me: James MacDonald says it in his
book Lord Change My Attitude, "Gratitude is the attitude that sets the
altitude for living".

Thankfulness is a life-changing decision, a choice. Any attitude we
have is a choice.

If you woke up grumpy this morning it is not because you haven't had
your starbucks. Today and every day we have a choice to be thankful
for what God has done. Have you thanked Him yet?

Today I am thankful for my family.

The American Humanist Association has launched a new ad campaign in Washington D.C.

I have a question, why not believe in God? I mean what is Christmas all about anyway.

Here are some excerpts from the article:

"We are trying to reach our audience, and sometimes in order to reach an audience, everybody has to hear you," said Fred Edwords, spokesman for the humanist group. "Our reason for doing it during the holidays is there are an awful lot of agnostics, atheists and other types of non-theists who feel a little alone during the holidays because of its association with traditional religion."

"It's a stupid ad," he said. "How do we define 'good' if we don't believe in God? God in his word, the Bible, tells us what's good and bad and right and wrong. If we are each ourselves defining what's good, it's going to be a crazy world."

Best-selling books by authors such as Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens have fueled interest in "the new atheism" — a more in-your-face argument against God's existence.

I am tenth in line this morning to vote. It's a wonderful cool morning
and I can't wait for the Son to shine today.

Proverb 3:5&6 says, Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean
not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and
He shall direct your paths.

That us a popular verse but I beleive God does not care how popular it
is but how it is practiced in our lives.

Movie review

My wife and I went to a movie yesterday after church with some good friends of ours. The movie was called Fireproof. It's from the creators of Facing the Giants and is an exceptional movie. It deals with the good and the bad of married life and what it takes to make you marriage fireproof.

As a husband, I need to what love is and how to communicate that love to my wife; however, if I don't know Christ, I don't know what true love is. Here is a favorite line from the movie, "you can't give her what you don't have" speaking of the love that can only come from knowing Christ.

I have to confess, I cried multiple times during this movie and I learned a lot. I recommend this movie to every married couple or to those who are planning on getting married.

You have to see it!

Growth Groups and VBS and Football, Oh My!

Growth Groups this trimester have been great so far. Last Wednesday wrapped up the first Starting Point group I am teaching. The next class begins July 23rd. Meanwhile, this Wednesday I have the privilege of being the guest speaker in the Foundations of Faith group taught by David McGrinn. David and I have known each other for three years or so and I’m excited to see the Godly growth he has displayed over the last year. He and I have been through a lot and I am blessed to have him as a friend.

I’ve invited the members of the first Starting Point class to join us this Wednesday and that makes me nervous. With David’s class and my class combined, we should have somewhere around 20 people. I’ve never taught in front of that many people before.

Speaking of teaching, Pastor Charles and I hosted our first Hospitality Seminar this past Saturday and it was phenomenal. Charles and I did a tag–team thing where he would speak then I would speak, it was fun. Pastor Phil helped out with some cool, on the fly, graphics. Thanks Pastor Phil!

VBS is beginning at the end of the month. I might be leading a group, providing security or doing check–in but what I’m really excited about is I’ll be performing magic at the opening session every night.

Anyway, July has shown itself to be a busy month so far and it’s only the 15th.

Oh yeah, by the way, the boy’s football season has started too. Practices four times a week. The first game is August 16th – pray for them.

Faith and Freedom Day at CSO

In celebration of the 4th of July our church in Orlando had a dynamite service today - we call it Faith and Freedom Day. Rev. Rob Schenck of Faith and Action in the Nation's Capitol was our guest speaker. Rob is a missionary to the elected and appointed officials in Washington DC, which is a fancy way of saying he preaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ to members of congress, senators, judges and even presidents. He is a "Jew by birth, a Christian by faith," and he taught from Psalm 139 and exhorted us to ponder the reason we celebrate our independence; our freedom. The bible says, "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed" (John 8:36). Without religious freedom, the ability to worship our Creator, we are still in bondage. We as Americans have the freedom to openly profess and proclaim the Gospel; yet in other countries Rob has visited, for example Sudan, people there cannot even think or have an opinion of their own for fear of being murdered by their government. He also reminded us of what is written in the Declaration of Independence, that the unalienable rights that have been endowed (gifted) to us are given to us by our Creator: Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Rob's message today was a testament of God's blessing on his ministry. Thank God for our freedom and thank God for Rev. Rob Schenck.Oh no, and that's not all.

Visiting our second service today was Dr. Mark A. Gabrial of the Union of former Muslims, UFM. Mark has spoken at our church before and he was here today to celebrate with us our freedom in Christ. For those of you who have not heard of Dr. Mark Gabrial, he is a former Muslim who now believes that:

"Former Muslims, like all other human beings, should have the absolute right and freedom to choose whatever religion or system of belief they want. The UFM will be an international organization established for the following purpose: To defend the human rights of Muslims who have chosen to leave Islam (i.e., former Muslims) and to provide them with a democratic, free environment where they can practice the right to choose their religion or beliefs."

Like Rev. Rob Schenck, he too preaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ - but in a much different environment. Two men of God, worlds apart, yet both fighting to uphold our most precious freedom, our freedom to worship God our Creator through faith in Jesus.

Both of these men are dear friends of my Pastor and seeing them all together today was just a blessing and a great way to celebrate our freedom with the upcoming holiday. I also can't wait to get back into the Gospel of John next week after my long holiday weekend.

Where ever you are this 4th of July stop and thank God for the freedom we have in Christ and then go share that freedom with someone else.

My little boy Jaden is four today...FOUR!. Krystal and I can't believe it. It seems like yesterday he was just a baby and ka-pow four years later he's playing football, starting school and picking on his older brother but not getting into trouble because he can the play the"I'm still the baby" card.

We love you Jaden, I hope you have a wonderful day...and yes next year you will be five and you get to be in Treasure Island.

The Perea Boys have begun their journey to football greatness. Their Doctor says they're physically fit, David's been fitted for his pads and they all received new gear and apparel (thanks to Grandma). The last two weeks have been a blur. My family and I just got back from a nice, overdue vacation. After celebrating our 10-year wedding anniversary last Friday we drove down to Miami for the weekend. After the much needed R and R we drove back home and spent time doing nothing. That’s right I said nothing.

Today was my first day back at work and I feel great. I can’t wait to go to church and see my friends and family.

A big thank you to all who helped make this wedding celebration/vacation a memorable one.

Stay tuned for pictures, maybe some video and other fun stuff from our vacation and anniversary.

Awhile back our church taught through Paul's Epistles. I wrote this devotion using the text from 1 Timothy 1:17-19

I hope you enjoy this devotional and please let me know your thoughts on the text.

Paul instructs young Timmy to fight the good fight
with two things: faith and a good conscience. Why? We can use these attributes as a defense while in Spiritual warfare. But wait a minute! Back in Ephesians,
doesn’t Paul give us a specific list of defenses for warfare – the Armor of God? Why would Paul boil them down to only two? I believe it follows the pattern of
Christ. Christ took the Ten Commandments and boiled them down to only two. Once we understand that God has our back as we walk in His righteousness, it’s no longer us doing the work, but Christ in us.

Real faith produces agood conscience, and a good conscience strengthens faith. Let us also recognize that faith is used not only as a weapon of defense. Faith is an indispensable element in our relationship to God (Hebrews 11:6); it’s a fundamental duty of every believer (John 6:28); and faith needs to be vital in our prayer life(James 1:6). Couple all of that back to Christ’s two commandments, see that faith should also be united in love (1 John 3:23).

This week, let’s examine our lives to see if we have the faith that is essential to us in our Christian walk. What does it mean in Hebrews 11 as it says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” It assumes the existence of God and that God has spoken to man. Is God speaking to you? If not, go back to Ephesians and see what attributes are a little weak in your life. Are you girding your waist with truth? Do you have the breastplate of righteousness? Do you have peace? Above all, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and are you in the Word which the bible calls the sword of the Spirit? I challenge everyone to go forward in your Christian walk, loving one another as Christ has loved you, and to fight the good fight with faith and a good conscience

Busy, busy, busy...

...looking forward to vacation.

All this week my family and I will be getting ready for a much needed vacation. It all starts with Krystal and I renewing our wedding vows and dedicating our marriage to the Lord. The ceremony will take place Friday evening. After the short ceremony, we will be driving down to the Miami Lakes area for the weekend and spending some time on the beach. We will be attending church at Calvary Fellowship, the pastor, Bob Fraquiz is a friend of our pastor at our Church in Orlando.

After our vacation, Jaden will be turning four years old. All three boys will begin football practice the end of June, which by the way I volunteered to be Head Coach of the flag football team. I'm excited to be head coach because I'll be coaching Nathan and Jaden.

While all that is going on, our next semester of Growth Groups will begin and I have the privilege of teaching Starting Point; it's a Growth Group designed for newer guests who attend church in Orlando and for them to begin the discipleship process of becoming a fully engaged follower of Christ. Our desire is to changes lives and make disciples. I'll also be playing bass guitar for worship.

I believe this time off will be the very thing we need to be more effective in
our ministry. Scheduling time off through out the year will be beneficial to our family and for everyone around us.

In other news, our Calvary Men's softball team won our first game. After three seasons we finished 1-29. With a lot of hard work and perseverance we became the victors. Praise the Lord

My fantasy NASCAR team was on the top of the league for the last two weeks, however, after last nights race I have moved back into second place. (I plan on regaining the top position)
